In 2022, iPad will use both MiniLED and OLED screen technologies

Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released the latest Apple research report, saying that in 2022, the iPad will use both MiniLED and OLED screens.

The report pointed out that MacBook is the most important application of MiniLED, while for iPad, it focuses on high-end models. It is expected that the new MacBook Air will use MiniLED in 2022, and only high-end models of the iPad will use MiniLED.

The report predicts that the iPad will use both MiniLED and OLED screen technologies in the future. The latest industry survey pointed out that if the iPad uses OLED screens in 2022, it will use the mid-to-low-end iPad Air, while the high-end iPad Pro will still use MiniLED. Because the OLED used in the iPad is a rigid board type and the PPI is significantly lower than that of the iPhone, the production difficulty is lower and the cost is close to the LCD display used in the current iPad Air.

According to the report, it is expected that with the reduction of MiniLED production costs, in the future, Apple's mid-to-high-end products that are positioned as productivity will eventually adopt MiniLED displays.

It is understood that Guo Mingchi stated in the report that it is expected that assemblers will start mass production of MiniLED iPads after mid-to-late April. The latest survey pointed out that the current production yield and quality of (MiniLED iPad) have reached Apple's high standards.

The report predicts that MacBook Pro using MiniLED will be mass-produced in the second half of 2021. Because MacBook's MiniLED display is less difficult to produce than iPad, it is expected that the new MacBook Pro will significantly boost MiniLED display shipments in the second half of 2021. MiniLED display shipments are expected to be 10 million and 20-30 million in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
